The following projects have been implemented by BA to support its target group and other vulnerable community members since 1999:

  • “Adopt a Babushka” - sponsors provide financial support for our target group by “adopting” elderly citizens (since 1999).

  • “Home Visiting Service” - BA’s social workers help the beneficiaries to improve hygiene, clean their houses, go shopping or pay the bills  (since 2001).
  •  
  • “Babushka Gift” – 10 self-help groups were formed, consisting of 100 craftswomen to make special Batken carpets to generate sustainable income for group members (2003-2004).
  •  
  • “Food support for old people” - food and other vital goods were purchased and distributed to beneficiaries (2002-2004).
  •  
  • “Babushka Hostess” – babushkas from Bishkek made souvenirs, clothes and other goods generating extra income (2004 – 2005).
  •  
  • “Dignity in Ageing” - a project developed and implemented in partnership with the “Help Age International”, a global organization safeguarding senior rights. BA jointly with HAI created, trained and maintained twenty-five Self Help Groups in Bishkek and the Batken region (2007-2009). Five day centres for elderly were established in Leilek district of Batken region. The centres were meant as meeting points where older people could actively spend their time, organize and implement different kinds of activities or just communicate with each other.

  • “Help to Help Themselves” - BA purchased and gifted 20 goats and 17 sheep to the most vulnerable beneficiaries of BA in the Batken region. This project was funded by GIZ* and the OSCE Academy in Bishkek (in 2008).

  • “Support of the Elderly in Winter” - BA provided food and coal to the most vulnerable 1200 elderly citizens in partnership with and financing from GIZ. (Winter of 2008-2009).
  •  
  • “Keep the Elderly on Their Feet in Kyrgyzstan” – a project initiated by Mr. Jan van Bremen, former head of “Elnura” Foundation (the Netherlands) who collected money and organised the shipment of “jacktraxes” for beneficiaries. These facilities helped to prevent the elderly from falling down on slippery paths and roads. 11.000 EUROs were collected by Mr. van Bremen to buy the jacktraxes. They were distributed in January 2009).

  • “Support of the Elderly in Wintertime” - beneficiaries of BA and with support from the members of “Agenet Central Asia Without Borders” provided hot food, blankets and winter shoes (Winter 2008 - 2009).

  • In 2010 fifteen Self-Help Groups of Babushka Adoption were supported through the financing of the Asia Universal Bank, which gave out grants for development of the SHG’s income generation activities and strengthening of the marketing potential, at the amount of 885 105 Soms. The amount was distributed to the groups according to their project proposals.

  • BA established an Elderly Initiatives support Centre under financing of ICCO in Belovodskoe village of Chui region. Our 5 Self Help Groups, established in 2010, have been implementing social, advocacy and income generation activities in the centre.  Our seniors were provided a room, equipment and raw materials to implement income generation. BA always works on strengthening of BA’s SHGs marketing capacity, so as to help them achieve self-sustainability. Different trainings on patchwork, rabbit keeping, indoor flower growing, keeping and breeding of bees were held.

  • Under financing of the Democracy Commission of the Embassy of the United States of America, BA implemented a project “Voice of the Elderly”, according to which our beneficiaries and members of their communities gained relevant skills to protect the rights and interests of the old age citizens as well as other vulnerable parts of society in 2011-2012. They implemented an advocacy campaign.

  • Under financing of the Public Relations Department of the Embassy of the United States of America, BA implemented a project on support of rural women initiatives through the “Economic Symposium of support of women.” Women activists were supported in their advocacy and income-generating activities.

  • BA implemented a project, financed by GIZ on building peace and interethnic tolerance promotion through the efforts of the respected elderly in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan in 2014.

  • In December 2012-March 2013 BA distributed humanitarian aid, provided by the Kumtor Operating Company, to 27 social organisations from Kyrgyzstan.

  • In 2014 BA won a small grant from the Swiss Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic to implement a project on increasing marketing capacity and quality of items produced by the elderly in order to increase sales. Development of the brand “Babushkino” for items produced by the elderly was possible under financing of the Swiss Embassy.

  • In 2015 a Day Center for older people was established in the town of Batken. Within the project frames a premise of the former House of Veterans was renovated, a bath house and a toilet were built. The project was possible with the participation of the Major’s Office of Batken town, support of the Elnura Foundation and financing of Wild Geese the Netherlands.

  • In 2015 BA won a grant from the American Embassy to start developing and providing paid social services for the population by Babushka Adoption in order to reach self-sustainability by the Foundation in the long term. The paid services include: provision of the paid social services and recruiting services for people over 50 years old.
  •  
  • BA is an active member of the Commissions of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, participating in drafting and promotion of the legislation regarding old age citizens.
