Humanitarian Aid

Babushka Adoption Foundation also distributes humanitarian aid to its beneficiaries as well as other needy people. Babushka Adoption Foundation regularly receives items such as clothing, bedding and food from Kyrgyz-based associations such as International Women’s Club of Bishkek, American soldiers from Manas Air Base Outreach Society, National Red Crescent Center, Atuul, Resource Center for the Elderly, and Tien Shan Foundation. Individuals have also donated items to Babushka Adoption Foundation for distribution to the elderly, children or the disabled.

With the generous financial support of GTZ, Babushka Adoption Foundation implemented a Winter Program in 2008-2009 which provided needy people in Bishkek and Batken oblast with food packages and coal for heating. Among the recipients were Babushka Adoption Foundation beneficiaries and members of the Deaf and Blind Association. You can read about the implementation of this program here. Babushka Adoption Foundation also provided hot soup from HelpAge International to the elderly during these cold winter months.

In 2009, Babushka Adoption Foundation received a shipment of 1000 Yaktrax traction devices to aid people’s mobility in slippery and icy conditions. This donation was organized by Mr Jan van Bremen of Elnura Foundation and distributed by Babushka Adoption Foundation to its beneficiaries and other organizations that work with the elderly such as the Public Association of Social Protection and the Resource Centre for the Elderly. Thanks to these Yaktraxes, now elderly people can walk on snow and ice and not be afraid of falling and injuring themselves.
